The School for Wise Children and the Royal Lyceum Theatre have teamed up to give you a taste of what it’s like backstage on their epic new show Bluebeard. They are inviting eight emerging production professionals to the theatre’s stage to meet the team and learn sections of the show.
Wise Children’s production team is a vital, professional and playful part of the family. Their school runs workshops and courses to inspire the next generation of theatre makers.
The Royal Lyceum Theatre brings the best theatre from around the world to Edinburgh and share the best of Scottish theatre with the world. At the Lyceum they believe that theatre is good for the soul and community is at the heart of what they do. Their Creative Learning department is celebrating 25 years of developing and nurturing talent this year, so are very excited to be putting on this workshop for the next generation of theatre makers.
They want to meet people at the start of their career. You don’t need experience in mixing or showcalling, but you do need some experience backstage. You’ll be over the age of 18, will have had some training or some work backstage (including youth, community or amateur productions) and you’ll be looking to take your next step into the theatre industry.
They want to hear from emerging Stage Managers, Wardrobe, Sound, Lighting and AV Technicians, especially those based in Edinburgh and Scotland, with an interest in touring.
At Wise Children, they actively encourage people from a variety of backgrounds with different stories, experiences and skills to join them and influence their work. They know that people who are D/deaf, disabled, neurodiverse, from the global majority and/or from a lower socio-economic background are under-represented in the theatre industry. Therefore, if you identify as having one or multiple of these protected characteristics, they are particularly interested in meeting you.
Please note, as Wise Children offers this workshop around the country, preference will be given to local artists. They consider this taster as being an ideal way to connect with regional artists that they wouldn’t normally get the opportunity to meet.
