Illuminate: Early Career Freelance Drama Workshop Assistant

Pay: £20 p/hr

Illuminate are an arts & heritage education company best known for the Junior Tour Guide programme for Historic Environment Scotland. They are looking for an early career freelancer to assist on their projects.

This role would initially support a Primary School performance project in Leith Primary School for a half day a week in April – June 2024 and then assist on other projects throughout the year as they arise around Edinburgh, Lothians and the Falkirk area.

This is not a full-time role and is for a freelancer with other projects of their own as it offers the opportunity to work flexibly. You would be working alongside an existing experienced member of the Illuminate team who will be happy to mentor and support an early career professional. In the longer term there are opportunities to progress and become one of their drama lead educators.

They are looking for someone able to:
– Support/assist at workshops and rehearsals including running small group rehearsals
– Assist with stage management and production
– Be a part of our creative and friendly team

Essential
– A qualification in or working towards a qualification in drama education and/or some experience of working in drama education
– A commitment to inclusion and creatively and resiliently accommodating different learning and behaviour needs
– The role includes carrying equipment, costumes etc around schools, can involve working indoors and outdoors in historic buildings and a good level of physical activity
– Some flexibility in schedule
– Excellent personal organisational skills
– PVG Membership or up-to-date Disclosure Scotland
– Own public liability insurance required if successful
– Ability to drive and access to car and/or access to good public transport links and able to travel. Our current projects are predominantly around Edinburgh & Lothians and Falkirk.

Desirable
– Experience in heritage education
– Experience working with song/music/dance
– Experience in site specific work and/or schools tour
