Clown Play is a two day clown workshop presented by Fiona Ferrier and Rachel Colles from Dirliebane Theatre Company, and in collaboration with Perth Theatre.
This clown workshop is open to artists as part of their ongoing professional development and will explore the clown elements of:
– saying yes
– connection
– presence
– playfulness
– improvisation
Workshop leaders: The workshops will be led by Fiona Ferrier and Rachel Colles, Artistic Directors of Dirliebane Theatre Company. Fiona previously led the workshop Clowning with Purpose at YTAS’ Interchange in 2022. They are professional character clowns and have been devising and performing clown theatre with Dirliebane Theatre Company since 2016. They are also Clown doctors and Elderflowers with Hearts & Minds and have been Artistic Leads for the last two years, training a new cohort of clown doctors in 2023. Fiona and Rachel are passionate about clowning, working in duos and using clown to establish strong connections with audiences.
Dirliebane Theatre Company creates clown theatre performances for children, young people and their families, using character clowning that creates naïve, optimistic, light and fun characters. Since 2016 Dirliebane has toured schools and venues with their clown shows Big, Space, Bounce and The Cinnamon Sisters, researched virtual reality theatre for children and young people and created clown films during the Covid-19 pandemic. Dirliebane is currently working in collaboration with Starcatchers on a clown show for babies under 12 months.

They are happy to facilitate access needs for participants, and we encourage applicants to bring them to our attention so that we can support them to the best of their abilities. They can provide a BSL interpreter at the workshop if requested. Tjhey will reserve two places for diverse groups.
