Summerhall Arts are always excited to welcome artists into Summerhall’s creative spaces whether you’re just starting to explore an idea, trying something completely new, or simply looking for space to play.
Throughout the year, they offer 20 weeks of paid space and 30 weeks of free space, released in instalments. This call-out is for our free space, which gives artists room to think, experiment, and stretch creative muscles without pressure or expectation.
What’s included:
• Up to five days access to the Anatomy Lecture Theatre
• If Tech Cube Zero would suit your work better, you can request it and they’ll do their best to accommodate (subject to availability)
• Venue specifications available on request
These free weeks are ideal for artists looking to try things out in a low-stakes, flexible setting. They’re intended for early-stage exploration, not formal R&D or structured residencies.
A few things to know:
• This is very much a DIY opportunity — they’re opening the doors but won’t be in the room with you.
• No tech support is provided
• You’ll need to bring everything you require (laptops, cables, adaptors, materials, etc)
• No printing, copying or equipment is available on-site
• You’ll sign an agreement confirming care of the space and respect for their code of conduct
They want you to feel welcome, but also prepared. These aren’t resourced or supported weeks – just a chance to get in the room and see what happens.
