Could you be the host with the most?

YTAS would like you to be part of supporting early career practitioners to develop their craft… Are you interested in hosting a placement as part of the Next Generation programme?

The Next Generation programme has supported a cohort of 20 young leaders aged 16-24 to access mentoring, training, and development activity both online and in-person on a part-time basis since autumn 2024. Training has covered facilitation techniques and specific artform skills, as well as foundational training in child protection, evaluation techniques, and emergency first aid. You can read more about the programme over on the Next Generation page of our website.

It’s almost time for these practitioners to put their skills to the test in real youth theatre environments and YTAS need your support. We’re looking for member organisations who might be keen to host a Next Generation placement within the next six months, maybe to support the delivery of regular sessions, or work alongside your team to deliver a holiday project.

Participants will be matched with organisations based on areas of interest, skills, and geography. We hope that introducing you to these young leaders will be the start of new professional relationships with qualified and keen facilitators.

If you’re interested in finding out more, please get in touch with our Sector Development Manager, Emma.

Our membership scheme has always been central to our role as the development body for Scotland’s youth theatre sector, but it hasn’t undergone a major update in more than a decade. This means the structure reflects the needs of a sector from ten years ago – not the one we have today. For 2026, YTAS are refreshing our membership scheme to make it a better fit for today’s sector.
Tuesday 10 February was a busy day out and about for some of our team, representing the youth theatre sector at both YouthLink Scotland’s Digital Youth Work Conference and at SCVO’s Gathering. Here are our team’s reflections from both events and the sessions they attended.
