BFI Film Academy offers opportunities for ambitious 16 to 19-year olds aiming to know more about film and how to make a career in the screen industries. This hands-on filmmaking course builds knowledge and skills and shows the pathways into the industry for talented and committed young people, with an excellent track record of inspiring the next generation of filmmakers and crew.

If you have a passion for film, this high quality course develops your understanding of screenwriting, cinematography, sound, directing, production and editing, make short films, learn from top talent working on feature films and high end TV through industry masterclasses, supports you towards studying on Scotland’s best university film courses, or make your first steps into the film, TV and creative industries workplace, and gain the BFI/Screen Skills NCFE Preparing to Work in the Film Industry qualification.

Applications are now open for the 2022 course for young people aged 16 to 19 living in the Edinburgh, Clackmannanshire, East Lothian, Falkirk, Fife, Midlothian, Scottish Borders, Stirling and West Lothian areas.

The course will take place online for the first session on Thu 13 October 2022, 6pm – 8pm, then in Edinburgh until 17 December 2022.

Screen Education Edinburgh is dedicated to making film accessible to all, and we welcome applications no matter your background or previous experience.

The course fee is £25, with bursaries available for those who require financial assistance to participate, including fees and/or travel costs.
