A Legislative Theatre performance asking what needs to change to enable us, as communities and citizens, to take effective climate action.
We all want to play our part in helping to tackle the climate crisis. But it often seems that our actions will be too small and that the crisis is too big. Sometimes climate spaces can feel exclusive. Big issues in our lives, such as poverty, cost of living or racism, can feel unaddressed or secondary to the important work of saving the planet. This can lead to feelings of apathy or not knowing what to do. They believe that everyone has something to contribute to addressing the crisis.
Legislative Theatre was developed in Brazil. It is a form of participatory democracy that enables participants to come up with new policy ideas. They also get to test them and vote on them in the theatre space.
This event will enable them to write new climate policy for Edinburgh that helps to feel that we can take meaningful action to tackle the climate crisis and that we are all included as part of this. The event will include interactive theatre performances as well as time to write, deliberate and vote on new policy.
Active Inquiry are delighted to be partnering with Edinburgh Napier University, Edinburgh Communities Climate Action Network (ECCAN) and the Council of Ethnic Minority Voluntary Organisations (CEMVO) for this unique event. They have also invited politicians and policymakers to be part of the dialogue.
