The Company Rehearsal: Shakespeare Play course focuses on the active preparation for, and presentation of, a shortened version of one of Shakespeare’s most talked about plays, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. The course is facilitated by experienced Shakespearean theatre director, Rob Myles.
It provides an opportunity for people age 16+ with previous drama or acting experience to work intensively towards a sharing in a workshop setting.
Throughout the 10-week course, students will explore text work, acting, characterisation and storytelling techniques that can help increase their confidence when speaking and playing Shakespeare for modern audiences.
The rehearsal process will be similar to what you would experience in a professional rehearsal room. It will involve intense and focused work on the play itself, in a supportive and collaborative process. You will be expected to come with questions and ideas, and work as an ensemble.
You will be expected to rehearse and learn lines at home between classes, to ensure maximum freedom to play and explore in the room during the course, before delivering a dynamic and engaging performance at the end of the course.
Throughout this course students will:
* take part in a performance of a Shakespeare play using the original text for invited guests
* use textual analysis to understand the play and their character
* explore the possibilities for bringing text to life in dynamic and original ways
* rehearse in a professional environment
There are no entry requirements for this open access course but to get the most out of it you should have some experience of performance and a practical understanding of theatre and performance skills.
Regular attendance on this course is particularly important as you will be working towards an ensemble performance.
