Creating Legislative Theatre

Venue: Norton Park Conference Centre, 57 Albion Road, Edinburgh, EH7 5QY
Prices: £160- £80

This is a two day workshop exploring how we can create Legislative Theatre and use a theatre performance as a place for participatory democracy

During the workshop participants will devise their own Legislative Theatre performance and will consider the following questions:

– How do you devise a Legislative Theatre play?
– What should be included in a Legislative Theatre event?
– How does the Joker (facilitator) run the event?
– How do you enable an audience to be involved in the creation, deliberation and voting on new policy?

Legislative Theatre
Legislative theatre was developed in Rio de Janeiro in Brazil in the 1990s by Brazilian theatre director Augusto Boal. It is part of the Theatre of the Oppressed. A development of Forum Theatre, it actively involves the audience is creating and voting on new policies or laws to help overcome oppression.
