Edinburgh Performing Arts Development (EPAD) are delighted to be offering Disability Equality Training led by Birds of Paradise Theatre Company on Thu 21 November 2024.

Who is it for?
This course is ideal for anyone who would like to learn more about disability equality, and create more inclusive, accessible environments within their work. 

EPAD provides advice and information to Edinburgh’s independent performing arts community. They aim to strengthen the city’s performing arts sector by making connections and creating opportunities to share resources across the city.

Due to the nature of the funding, their work is aimed at professionals working in the performing arts based in Edinburgh.

In this comprehensive disabled-led training with Birds of Paradise, you will learn about what actively disables people, explore disability from a cultural context, and gain the skills and confidence to create a more inclusive and accessible environment in whatever you do. 

This training with Birds of Paradise is underpinned by an extensive knowledge of equality and access within the sector as well as the wider context of how we view disability and think about equality within society. 

They know disabled people continue to experience significant barriers in the culture sector and elsewhere. This training offers a relaxed way to gain the skills and confidence to remove these barriers. The knowledge, skills and tools you gain during the session will apply across all areas of your work and motivate you to make a positive change.

– Legislation & activism: where weve been and how we got here
– Language around disability 
– Access requirements and removing barriers
