This workshop, offered in partnership with Spotlight, is an introduction to exploring and applying speech actions that make up the ‘General American’ accent which is a key casting requirement for actors.

Learn how to begin mastering the General American accent by exploring the following: how to identify oral posture of the General American accent; the key pronunciation changes and spoken rhythms of the General American accent and through practical work on a short script with individual feedback.

ARTIST BIO
Abi Lumb has worked extensively as a voice and dialect coach and as a lecturer within top UK drama schools including LAMDA, Arts Ed, Shakespeare’s Globe Education, Mountview, Laine Theatre Arts, ALRA, Rose Bruford, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. Some of her coaching credits include: East is East (The National Theatre/Birmingham Rep), Peter Pan (Birmingham Rep), A Winter’s Tale, Twelfth Night (Shakespeare’s Globe), A Few Good Men, Appropriate, Ulster American, Lovesong, Yen (LAMDA).
