Showstopper! The Improvised Musical

Improvising Musical Theatre Weekend Workshop

Venue: Quaker Studio, 60 Pleasance, Edinburgh, EH8 9TJ
Prices: £195

Want to learn how to improvise musical theatre? The Olivier Award winning Showstopper! The Improvised Musical team are bringing their fantastic weekend workshop to Edinburgh in April.

They are excited to present our second weekend workshop in Edinburgh. If you are an improviser or performer wanting to explore instant musical theatre, this is the course for you. Covering the skills that have made Showstopper! The Improvised Musical an Olivier Award-winning West End hit, they will look at improvised solo and group numbers, narrative skills, scene work (comedic and dramatic) and improvised choreography.

Led by Edinburgh-based Showstopper veteran Pippa Evans and Musical Director, Duncan Walsh Atkins, you are in for an intense and delightful two days.

Do I need to be able to sing?

Do you need to be able to sing like Adele? No. Will it be helpful if you can hold a note? Yes. They only ask that you come with a willingness to sing in front of other people. They are not here to judge your singing voice.

Do I need to know musical theatre?
When improvising any subject, some knowledge is useful. You do not need to be encyclopaedic. They will be referencing West End/Broadway shows so you might want to know your Les Mis from your Dear Evan Hansen. Google is always your friend here.

I’ve never done any improv – can I come?
They ask that you either have a basic training in improvisation or some theatrical experience. This weekend isn’t suitable for complete beginners.

I’ve taken this course before – can I take it again?
Absolutely! They work on both a group and an individual level, meaning they can tailor our feedback to the level of experience you bring into the room.

When: 20 – 21 April 2024, 10am – 5pm (both days)
Where: Quaker Studio, 60 Pleasance, Edinburgh, EH8 9TJ
How much: £195 per person for the weekend
Maximum participants: 14.

They price our courses to cover our costs – which includes a small support fund for people with financial restraints. If you need assistance, please contact the organisers.

Showstopper has committed to working to increase the participation of Global Majority citizens in the world of improvisation. To that end, we have one scholarship place for this weekend course for a Person of Colour. Please contact us for further details via
