This five day hands-on summer school is designed for those who wish to expand their skill set and become familiar with a variety of different puppetry techniques used in Contemporary Theatre.
Led by experienced theatre practitioner and puppeteer Gavin Glover, this course will allow you to explore the physicality, presence and movement of the puppet, discovering how it can often be more expressive than the actor performing with it.
You can encourage it to walk, to run and to jump and you can witness how it can have feelings, emotions and even a sense of humour.
By the end of the course you will have:
– Become more technically proficient in handling various types of puppet allowing you to be more confident to audition for performance roles that require puppetry skills.
– Explored the relationship between puppet, performer and audience through verbal and non verbal improvisation.
– Considered how puppetry could be utilised in your own theatre practice, looking at its advantages and drawbacks and how it is used in other theatre productions both large and small.
– Discussed simple construction principles in the design and making of a successful stage puppet.
