Shetland Youth Theatre – Spring 2026

Venue: Mareel, Lerwick, Shetland, ZE1 0WQ
Prices: £66 | Sibling Discount £52.80

Shetland Youth Theatre (SYT) is an exciting year-long programme designed for young people who are curious about acting, storytelling, and what happens behind the scenes in a real theatre.

Whether you’re dreaming of performing, interested in stage lighting and sound, or just looking for a fun, creative space to meet new people, SYT has something for you. The close and inclusive group meet weekly during term time to develop theatre knowledge and skills. These sessions are always open to new members – so if you’ve ever thought about trying theatre, please do come along and join in!

Director Stephenie Georgia is known locally for her work with Islesburgh Drama Group and more widely for her innovative social practice based work, such as Fragmented and Pollyanna Paradox in partnership with Shetland Women’s Aid and the Compass Centre.

Sessions take place every Wednesday, 5.15pm – 7pm. Following the school calendar, the programme is split into four seasonal terms, each offering something new:

► Autumn is all about learning the ropes – we explore acting techniques, stagecraft, and creative play. Dates: 27 August – 8 October 2025.

► Winter gets performance-ready, leading up to a relaxed sharing where you can show off your progress to family and friends. Dates: 5 November – 10 December 2025.

► Spring shines a spotlight on planning and production – everything from scripts to set design, and how a show comes together behind the scenes. Dates: 4 February – 25 March 2026.

► Summer is the big moment: students create and perform their own original work at the Shetland Youth Theatre Annual Showcase. Dates: 22 April – 17 June 2026.

One of the biggest highlights of the year is their Easter Intensive (6 April – 10 April 2026), a week-long deep dive into rehearsals and performance at the Garrison Theatre. It’s a chance to experience a real working theatre, guided by professionals, including your very own stage technician.

Whether you’re in it for the spotlight or love the magic behind the curtain, SYT offers a fun, supportive environment to grow skills, build confidence, and be part of something really amazing.

For ages 12 – 19.

Sibling discount is available on all of Mareel’s youth groups – if one sibling has a full price ticket, the second is eligible for a 20% discount on the same sessions.
