Aged 18 – 30 with a passion for storytelling, creative writing and theatre? Local theatre makers Ten Feet Tall are bringing The Playwriting Challenge to Light the Blue 2024, inviting emerging writers to create a new short play in one day.
This is an exciting challenge for up to four early career writers to test themselves under pressure, develop their craft and get to see their work performed to an audience. You might be at the very start of your writing journey or be looking for a new creative challenge.
Participants must meet the following essential criteria:
– Be an early-career writer who is based in or has a connection to Aberdeen or Aberdeenshire
– Be aged 18-30
– Attend the full duration of the weekend, 10-5pm both days
How it works:
Sat 8 June 2024, 10am – 5pm: The Writers Room.
Venue: The Lemon Tree, 5 West North Street, Aberdeen, AB24 5AT
Writers will descend upon The Writers Room where no phones or internet are allowed. Responding to themes and creative stimulus, each writer will unleash their instinct and skill to create their own original piece of new writing that will be two – five minutes long. Following Ten Feet Tall’s format, writers will be supported throughout and still have enough time to proof-read their play before handing it over for the next stage. After entering with a blank page, writers will walk out with a new play…
By 5pm the following day, those plays will have been performed in front of a live audience.
Sun 9 June 2024, 10am – 5pm: Light The Blue Emerge Artist Day
Venue: The Music Hall, Union Street, Aberdeen, AB10 1QS
The plays will receive an intensive rehearsal session with actors and Ten Feet Tall directors. The plays will then be performed, script-in-hand, in front of a live audience as part of Light The Blue’s EMERGE artist development day.
