Dirliebane Theatre Company, with filmmakers Neon8, have been undertaking research and development into Virtual Reality Theatre for children working with Perth Theatre, Perth Youth Theatre, partner schools, and BSL using communities. They would like to share the findings of the project with interested theatre industry professionals on Thursday 16 June 2022 in The Space at Perth Theatre.
Dirliebane Theatre Company creates clown theatre performances for children, young people, and their families touring schools and venues throughout Scotland since 2016.
Neon8 are an Edinburgh based independent video and virtual reality film production company who have made it their goal to bring more performing arts companies and venues into the VR realm by making it as accessible as possible both from a cost point of view and experiential. They are partners in a new VR Video platform dedicated to the performing arts called Box Office VR.
In March this year, Dirliebane and Neon8 filmed the production BOUNCE (a show about big emotions for P3-P5s) in Virtual Reality. Different variations of the show were filmed, which included with an audience, without an audience, with special effects, with ‘close ups’, and the creation and filming of an integrated BSL version (Dirliebane is particularly interested in the accessibility of VR theatre). All these versions will be taken into three partner schools, youth theatres and BSL using communities in May and June where Dirliebane and Neon8 will undertake in-depth research and evaluation.
This Sharing Event is an opportunity to…
- Meet with the companies (Dirliebane, Neon8 and Box Office VR and BSL Artist Amy Helena).
- Experience the recording of a short live performance which will be transferred to the VR Headsets by the end of the sharing.
- Experience our VR recordings of BOUNCE on the VR headsets & feedback your thoughts.
- Hear the results of the research from the participating schools and communities.
Have a discussion with other industry professionals and talk about future possibilities of Virtual Reality Theatre. If you’ve never experienced VR Video whilst wearing a headset, this will be a seated and passive experience watching 3D VR180.
There will be two sharings. 9.30am – 12.30pm and 1.30pm – 4.30pm. Please only sign up for one. Our sharing will be BSL interpreted.
