Thanks to funding from Creative Scotland and the Gannochy Trust, Youth Theatre Arts Scotland are delighted to be able to offer bursary places to the exciting Dorothy Heathcote Now: International Drama Conference 2023 in Aberdeen from 5 – 8 October.

Bursaries are available to any YTAS Member who requires financial support in order to attend the event, including conference fees, travel and accommodation.

Bursary applications for the conference are now open and you have until 5pm on 15 September to apply.

What is the event?

Dorothy Heathcote was ahead of her time. Her work continues to provide models, inspiration, and challenges. Her vision of a revolution in the way we think about education seems even more urgent now than ever. This conference will combine talks and workshops. There is an emphasis on practice, with a particular focus this year on drama conventions and strategies. The conference will appeal to teachers, drama practitioners, youth theatre workers, students, trainee teachers, and academics.

YTAS is inviting any interested members to come along to a virtual Information Session with Midland Actors Theatre’s David Allen, one of the creative organisers behind this year’s conference, on Wednesday 6 September 2023 at 12.30pm.

Who can apply?

Bursaries are available to any YTAS Member. If you are not yet a YTAS member and would like to become one please see our Membership page.

How many funded places are available?

There are the equivalent of two fully-funded places available for the conference. YTAS will also consider part bursaries for those who can pay for their own travel and accommodation but need support to cover conference costs, or vice versa. Bursaries will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis, until funds run out, so we encourage you to request your places as early as you are able to.

How do I apply?

If you would like to apply for a bursary, please apply by Friday 15 September at 5pm. The application form will ask you to outline which conference days you would like to attend, and to give a brief explanation of how attendance will benefit you.
