Meet our new Membership Support Coordinator

Carla Marina Almeida

Hello!

I’m Carla and I joined Youth Theatre Arts Scotland as Membership Support Coordinator in June. I’m looking forward to getting to know the members and learning more about all the work that you do and ways to better support it.

I have previously worked as a performance producer and programmer at Dundee Rep Theatre, Paisley Arts Centre, and the National Theatre, as well as being a freelance producer and facilitator for over 10 years, working with several companies across the UK and internationally, taking several shows to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

When the pandemic put a sudden stop to live events, I joined Greenspace Scotland to work on a mass-scale community co-creation project, Remembering Together. This is a COVID recovery community memorial project taking place across each of the 32 local authority areas in Scotland, working with over 150 artists and local communities co-creating very distinct ways to mark the effects of the pandemic, from music, theatre, public art, walking trails, textiles, and lots of things in between.

At YTAS, I will be looking after the Membership Support Portal, which contains a wide of variety of guides, toolkits and resources that have been collated to help you with developing your youth theatre. YTAS tried to make the support portal and the information on it is as clear as possible, but I am happy to guide members through it and figure it out together what resources would be most helpful for you.

I am in currently planning some information sessions before the end of the year, so you’ll be hearing from me shortly. In the meantime, I am always available to chat about all things youth theatre and ways to support your practice or organisation.

Looking forward to meeting you soon!

We’re on hand to help

Did you know that as well as our Membership Support Coordinator and Portal, the YTAS team responds to around 100 requests each year for bespoke advice, support, or collaboration? These come from a wide variety of YTAS members, non-member drama groups, and youth arts and education stakeholders. Common queries include…

  • Help setting up a new youth theatre group or project to address identified local issues
  • Help promoting their events, training, opportunities, or resources
  • Help creating new company policies or improving their business practices
  • Specific queries related to concerns around funding, child protection, risk assessment, or Equalities, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
  • Requests for input into sector development research or consultation
  • Requests for assistance with international contacts or funding.

If you need help with these types of queries, or anything else, contact info@ytas.org.uk and we’ll make sure the right person gets back to you as soon as possible.
