Aberdeen Arts Centre is looking for a Set Designer to work alongside the show’s Director and wider creative team to create an integrated set design for their new youth musical The New Kid. Castlegate Theatre Company (CTC) is Aberdeen Arts Centre’s in-house youth theatre company for ages 8 – 17.

The New Kid is a new pop musical which tells the story of Hana, a young teenager who constantly moves around with her family. Hana finds herself yet again starting a new school but when she breaks her father’s lucky watch she finds herself stuck in a time loop repeating her first day at school, doomed to be The New Kid forever… unless she can find a way to connect with people around her.

The piece is in the mid stages of development, and they are looking for a creative, imaginative and flexible Set Designer to join the creative team to design the set in collaboration with the Director, Costumes/Props Assistants and creative team. The contract will run from March – June 2023.

Wed 15 March 2023: Successful applicants will be invited for an informal chat in person or on Zoom with The New Kid Director Philip Napier and Producers Stephanie Walls & Chloe Lonchay.
They are particularly interested to hear from candidates who are based in Scotland and those from underrepresented groups.

Fee: £3000 inclusive
The Set Designer is free to complete project at pace that suits them on the basis the fee is capped at £3000 (The fee is based on an indicative rate of £25 p/h for 120 hrs)
