Aberdeen Performing Arts are looking for emerging performers and makers aged 18 – 25 to form a young company as part of Found, a new project for Climate Week North East and Light The Blue 2024.

The young company will work with disabled theatre maker and activist Ink Asher Hemp and a professional creative team on the development of Found, a new play commissioned by Aberdeen Performing Arts that responds to the climate crisis.

About Found
Welcome to the Sorting Centre, beyond this point steel boots must be worn. Paper, plastics, left and right. Up in the lift go tin cans, favourite foods, hot water bottles on a cold winter night and the energy price rise. Over here it’s the biohazards – sorted by Marcus, but he’s late again – single use plastics, disposable nappies and everyones’ favourite – guess who’s back? – it’s recycled David Cameron, surprise! Today can’t get chucked in general waste if tomorrows’ is found in the gems in recycling. So let’s get sorting, till we find them, because somewhere in here there’s a world that raises a smile.

About The Project
This is an exciting, free opportunity for emerging performers to work with a professional creative team on the development of a new play, with two performance opportunities across the project.

The young company will meet on Tuesday evenings across February and March 2024, working on the first draft of the play and rehearsing towards a work-in-progress sharing as part of Climate Week North East. The group will then work towards a more developed staging of the play, to be performed at Light The Blue 2024, the multi-artform festival for and by young people.

A climate-conscious approach will be adopted for this project, with an ambition for 100% of props/set/costume to be found objects or made from recycled/repurposed materials.

This project is perfect for emerging performers and creatives who are interested in pursuing a career in theatre. You might be a college student or early career artist looking for performance experience and insight into working professionally.

The young company will develop new skills in performance, script development and a climate-conscious approach to making theatre. There will also be opportunities for 1-2-1 mentoring and insights into pursuing a career in the arts.
