BOP Young Artists (Theatre-Makers) will see up to 12 D/deaf, Disabled and/or Neurodivergent young creatives aged 18-25 work together (with support from highly experienced BOP staff) to devise, create and stage an exciting new piece of theatre with accessibility creatively embedded into the production.
To be able to apply for BOP Young Artists (Theatre-Makers), you must have a home base in Scotland and be able to travel to Glasgow for all activity.
Selection Criteria: Artform
Applicants to BOP Young Artists (Theatre-Makers) must be passionate about starting a career creating new, accessible theatre and collaborating with other disabled young creatives.
This project is for those interested in the theatre-making process.
BOP Young Artists (Theatre-Makers) will take part in processes such as:
- Collaborating with others on ideas for performance where accessibility is central.
- Playing with ideas and accepting that some of these might not ‘work’ and might not end up in the final piece.
- Actively researching, exploring and testing design ideas and accessibility.
- Working with professional access providers and consultants on captions, audio description and sign language interpretation.
- Generating a lot of material and being able to select and edit what is best for the story and the performance.
- Exploring how to structure the work effectively.
- Ensuring the world of the piece makes sense and the whole story is framed in a believable and engaging way for the audience.
Some people perform the theatre they devise, and some do not. We welcome applications from people who want to be onstage and from those who want to be involved in the other aspects of theatre creation, such as direction, dramaturgy, and/or exploring writing within a devising context.
Selection Criteria: Commitment
Applicants will be expected to commit to the full one year programme to get the most of this exceptional opportunity. (please see When and Where on the BOP website for more detail). They understand that sometimes conditions can flare and health can fluctuate. They will support you however we can for you to continue to take part for the duration of the project. See the section on Access Requirements on the BOP website for more detail.
