The Young Audiences Group are seeking to engage a researcher/consultant with expertise in Equalities, Diversity, and Inclusion to lead a review of the Scottish Young Audiences sector to identify the barriers that artists experience when working or aiming to work in the sector.
By undertaking this review, they seek to identify actions to improve accessibility to working in the Young Audiences sector. They are interested in understanding the experience of all artists who identify as having protected characteristics including those from the Global Majority, Disabled and LGBTQIA+. They are also considerate of socio-economic factors such as income and social deprivation that intersect with protected characteristics. The identified actions will be implemented by those working within the Young Audiences sector, including members of a new network/membership collective which they are planning to establish. The aim is that these positive actions will impact the work that is created for and shared with babies, children and young people across Scotland.
This work will sit alongside research/consultation that will take place concurrently by Victoria Beesley that has a focus on children’s rights, and what a rights-based approach for the sector looks like.
They anticipate that work on this project will begin in August 2024 with activities taking place throughout the Autumn and a final report shared with the Young Audiences Group in December 2024. There is scope for some flexibility with this timeframe, and they are happy to discuss this as part of the appointment process.
There is a fee of up to £5,000 for this piece of work. A budget to support the delivery of this work will be available. They anticipate this will include fees for freelance artists to participate, access costs, wellbeing costs, materials and any venue hire costs. A further budget is available to provide coaching/supervision for the researcher/consultant to support the delivery of this work.
