Drama Mill is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Musical Theatre Tutor to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves working with children and has a passion for musical theatre, performance and creativity.
The successful candidate will work alongside another tutor to lead a large and lively group of 30 children, helping them develop their confidence, performance skills and teamwork while working towards a new musical production inspired by the Christmas movie Home Alone.
Key Responsibilities
Team Teaching: Work collaboratively with another tutor to lead a class of over 30 children, creating a positive, energetic and well-organised learning environment.
Directing and Rehearsing: Guide and support students through the rehearsal process for a new and revised musical based on Home Alone. Use the provided script, songs and backing tracks to deliver engaging and enjoyable sessions. Teach and develop performance skills including acting, singing, movement and characterisation. Adapt activities and teaching approaches to suit different ages, abilities and levels of experience within the group.
Class Management: Create a fun, structured and supportive environment where children feel confident to participate, take creative risks and develop their skills. Manage a large group positively and effectively, maintaining clear expectations while ensuring sessions remain enjoyable and engaging.
Inclusive Environment: Encourage and support every student to take part and feel valued, regardless of their previous experience or ability. Help build confidence, creativity and a strong sense of teamwork within the group.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience teaching and/or directing children in musical theatre, drama or performing arts.
- Experience working towards a production or performance with children.
- Confidence leading and managing a large group of young people.
- A passion for creating fun, engaging and supportive theatre experiences.
Desirable:
- Basic singing and dancing abilities.
- Relevant qualifications or training in performing arts, musical theatre, drama, education or a related field.
What’s On Offer
Start date: Immediate
Place: Dunbar Parish Church Hall, East Lothian
Hours offered: 3.45pm- 4.45pm or 4.45pm – 7.15pm (3.5 or 2.5)
Pay: £30 per hour, depending on experience
