Edinburgh Youth Theatre: Drama Assistants

Edinburgh Youth Theatre (EYT) is seeking experienced assistants to join their team. They are opening new weekly classes in Dalry and expanding our team to deliver and support these, as well as their existing Portobello classes. If you are creative, enthusiastic, and have a strong understanding of drama in a youth theatre setting, working with a wide range of children and young people, they want to hear from you.

Freelance contract, hours to be set between 4.30pm-6.30pm on Thursdays and 1pm-6.30pm on Fridays during term time at Bellfield Hub, 16b Bellfield Street, Portobello, EH15 2BP or St Martin’s Community Centre, 232 Dalry Road, Dalry EH11 2JG.

Start: 9 January 2025
Rate: £12.50ph
Initial four week trial

Key Responsibilities:
– Support the delivery of EYT classes and workshops to provide age/theme/media appropriate drama sessions for participants.
– Support the class leader in any set-up and get-out of equipment as required and ensure that all areas are left in a suitably tidy and secure manner.
– Be an active and enthusiastic participant in the session, encouraging students to take part and to have their voices heard.
– Role model positive participation.
– Run warm ups, games or tasks as required during the session.

– Individualised Support: Adapt assisting methods to accommodate the diverse learning styles of a neurodiverse youth theatre class.
– Communication: Maintain open and effective communication with EYT team members, management and children’s parents and or carers to provide updates on children’s progress and any concerns.
– Team Collaboration: Collaborate with other staff members to ensure a holistic approach to children’s well-being and development.
– Professional Development: Be open and willing to take part in training to further your professional development.


Essential requirements from you:
– No less than one year’s experience working with children who are neurodivergent in a youth theatre setting.
– Strong understanding of childhood development.
– Patience, empathy, and excellent communication skills.
– Creative and adaptable assisting techniques.
– Ability to electronically take class registers and sign in/out of EYT shifts.

Non essential requirements from you:
– Certification in First Aid.
