Federation of Scottish Theatre: Bursaries

Closing date: Sun 2 Nov 2025: 11pm

Federation of Scottish Theatre’s (FST) bursaries were created with the aim of growing individuals’ knowledge of specific roles, and supporting them into the profession. These paid opportunities allow individuals to work within an established organisation or with an established practitioner in the performing arts for up to 12 weeks. FST hopes that this programme can diversity the sector, providing more opportunities to those that are often excluded from them.

The bursary programme has been running since 2008 and has supported over 100 people to gain valuable industry experience.

FST bursaries support a variety of roles within the performing arts. The following list should give you a sense of what can be supported through the bursary award:

  • producing
  • directing
  • design
  • choreography/movement
  • sound
  • technical/production
  • creative learning
  • artistic development

The application form (see link) is a joint application between you and the organisation/professional you want to work with. Take a look at the guidelines over on the FST website for eligibility, more information about how the bursaries are funded, and for advice about how to go about completing the application process.

In March 2025, FST hosted a virtual information session to explain the process, and to answer any questions potential applicants may have had. The session was recorded and can be viewed here.
