Framework Theatre: Resident Artist Callout

Closing date: Fri 21 Nov 2025: 5:00PM

Framework Theatre are recruiting one Resident Artist to join them on a 10-month long paid placement (January – October 2026). This callout is for emerging/early-career theatre makers in Scotland. This project is funded by the National Lottery via Creative Scotland.

They are especially interested in hearing from artists who have a clear long-term ambition and passion for contributing to the arts sector in Scotland, as well as artists from backgrounds currently underrepresented in Scottish theatre including d/Deaf artists, disabled artists, global majority artists and artists of marginalised genders.

Commitment: 20 days of ad-hoc work over a placement of 10 months (January – October 2026). Estimated at two days a month.
Fee: £3000 (20 days at £150/day)
Access & Travel Support provided within Scotland.

Essential Criteria:
– Must identify as an emerging/early-career theatre-maker.
– Must be permanently based in Scotland.
– Must be interested in the logistics of running a theatre-company in Scotland today.

The Resident Artist can be someone of any theatrical background with a clear interest in organisations, supporting artist development and a knowledge of the Scottish theatre sector. The successful candidate will be someone who has ambition to work in companies in Scottish theatre in the future, and who is at a point in their career where they will be able to take what they learn and implement it throughout their work. It is likely that this is someone with long term artistic leadership ambitions.

Once selected, the Artist will meet with the Framework team in early 2026 to discuss what shape their placement might take. The placement does not have set duties, as these are open and flexible to the career goals and interests of the selected Artist.

The Framework team work part-time and predominantly remotely with team members based across Scotland. They have one in-person meeting scheduled each month. This in-person time is often in Edinburgh or Glasgow, but they would encourage applicants from anywhere within Scotland to apply as they can support travel for any in-person working.
