Jen Kelly and Spare Arts are seeking six dedicated performers to join a collaborative performance laboratory. This is the first step in building a Glasgow based theatre company focused on experimentation and devised theatre.
This is an opportunity to collaborate with like minded performers, hone your skills and form a committed theatre company. In this initial stage, the laboratories are a chance to performatively explore ideas, texts, and movement, to support the professional development of the artists involved.
What They Are Looking For:
– Collaborative spirit: We thrive in a non-hierarchical environment, where everyone’s ideas and contributions are valued.
– Creative drive: Do you have a passion for devising original work and pushing boundaries?
– Varying performance experience: They are interested to hear from you whether you are an emerging artist or established, and open to working with people with backgrounds in acting, contemporary performance, physical theatre and other artforms. They would also be interested in collaborating with designers.
– Openness to exploration: They’ll be delving into all aspects of theatre, from acting and movement to devising new work and exploring the technical elements that bring a performance to life. Bring your diverse skillset and be ready to learn from each other.
The Commitment:
Initial three-week workshop series: They’ll meet once a week to create, experiment, and develop new performance ideas. The Lab Sessions will be facilitated by Jen Kelly and visiting facilitators, in collaboration with Spare Arts. After the initial workshop sessions, there will a review period to consider next steps for the group.
Workshop dates:
13, 14 and 20 July 2024, 2.30pm – 5pm.
Location in Southside of Glasgow. Active participation: Be prepared to actively participate in discussions, exercises, and improvisations.
How To Apply:
Tell them your story! Send a brief email introduction that includes your experience and what kind of performance excites you. Share your practice: Include a maximum of three files to give them an insight to your practice. Feel free to submit a CV, portfolio, website link, video/images, etc of your past performances (any style is welcome) to provide further context. Please do not stress about this material being too polished – they just want to know a bit more about your style and experience.
Deadline: Please sent the above materials to hello@jenkellyartist.com by Fri 28 June 2024 at 5pm. They will be in contact with everyone who applied by 2 July 2024. Selected applicants will be provided more information.
