PACE Theatre Company: Pantomime Chorus Costume Maker/Supervisor

PACE Theatre Company are searching for a passionate costume professional to oversee the sourcing/procuring/manufacturing/budget management of chorus costumes for their annual pantomime.

This is an opportunity to collaborate closely with the director, designer, and production team to ensure the flawless realisation of the chorus costume designs, contributing significantly to the success of the production.

Most of the work can be undertaken around your own schedule on a freelance basis. However, they would require you to be at the performance venue on a full-time basis for the duration of the technical rehearsal process which will be from Sat 18 – Thu 30 November 2023 (Mondays off). 

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with the costume designer and director to grasp the artistic vision and production requirements.
• Source, choose, manufacture and/or procure costumes and accessories aligned with character identities and design concepts.
• Manage the costume budget resourcefully, monitoring expenses and seeking cost-effective solutions.
• Oversee fittings and adjustments to ensure chorus members’ comfort and proper fit.
• Coordinate with the Chorus Director, Production Manager, to faithfully execute design plans and meet deadlines.
• Maintain open communication with the crew and production team regarding all costume-related aspects.
• Ensure organised storage and labelling of costumes throughout the production.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience as a Costume Maker/Supervisor for theatrical productions or related roles.
• Strong understanding of costume design, fabrics, construction, and historical attire.
• Excellent organisational and multitasking skills to navigate a fast-paced production schedule.
• Effective communication and collaboration abilities within a creative team environment.
• Problem-solving skills to address costume-related challenges and emergencies.
• Keen attention to detail and a discerning eye for aesthetics and design accuracy.
• Adaptability to evolving production needs and schedules.
• Experience and enthusiasm in working with young people (12-17).
