Funded places available on Sound and Music Theatre: An Introduction Online Credit-Rated Short Course
31 August – 2 November 2022, 6.30pm – 8.30pm

RCS have a limited number of fully funded places available on their online credit-rated short course Sound and Music Theatre: An Introduction.

Through lectures and seminars by the module staff and industry specialists, this module will introduce you to the key concepts, theories, and histories of the field of Sound and Music Theatre. This module will investigate the complex relationships between sound/music and theatrical forms, ranging from opera and musical theatre to experimental and hybrid theatrical forms, in which sound art and music are an inextricable and crucial element of the theatrical whole. While charting the histories of the field and its traditions, the module will focus on conceptual thinking and dramaturgy around contemporary, experimental, avant-garde, and interdisciplinary approaches to Sound and Music Theatre.

This course will be run online via Microsoft Teams and Zoom. Places on this course are limited and are by application.

The module aims to:

* Introduce you to the key concepts, theories, and histories of the field of Sound and Music Theatre;
* Provide a discursive and collegiate space to explore the relationships between sound/music and theatrical forms with peers and industry specialists;
* Introduce you to some key industry specialists through visiting artist lectures in order to widen your network of artists and companies within the field of Sound and Music Theatre;
* Enable you to develop a performance proposal or research project that critically contextualises performance work within this divergent and vibrant field.

During the course students will:
