A two year, part-time, remote or hybrid programme of study designed to support all arts educators to enhance their practice and their career opportunities
The PG Cert is designed for anyone who has a role in supporting the development of others in the arts. This includes arts educators in formal and non-formal contexts, from schools, to community workshops, from higher education to private practice. It includes educators working in music, performance, art, design, dance, film, creative media or any other arts discipline.
As part of community of practice, you will engage in delivered sessions designed to inspire thinking, provoke discussion and explore perspectives. You will engage in practice-based research working in your own professional context to explore and enhance your practice. On the programme you will be able to:
• Follow the aspects of your practice that you are most passionate about. Through a process of critical enquiry you will have the opportunity to really explore what matters most to you as an arts educator.
• Develop your own unique and creative approach to meeting the needs of your learners. Through practice-based research you will have the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of how your approach to supporting learning is perceived by your learners to be meeting their needs
• Explore the theories and practices that underpin quality learning and teaching in the arts. Through exploring how you support learners, you will gain a deeper understanding of how your individual approach aligns with literature, research, and policy, helping you identify ways to enhance your practice.
• Develop your confidence in your practice as an arts educator. Through engaging in an exploration of your values, beliefs, and priorities as an arts educator you will develop confidence in designing and delivering learning, but also in talking about your practice.
The application process is open until 30 June 2026. If you have any questions, please contact Jamie Mackay on j,mackay@rcs.ac.uk or have a look on their website https://www.rcs.ac.uk/courses/pg-certificate-learning-teaching/.
