Step into the future of performance! This pioneering programme explores how digital innovation and artificial intelligence are reshaping theatre, dance, music, and live performance.

Whether you’re an artist, performer, technician, educator, or creative producer, Split Screen empowers you to experiment, innovate, and tell stories in entirely new ways.

Powered by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) in partnership with Scottish Opera, Scottish Ballet, Citizens Theatre, Codebase, Techscaler, Creative Glasgow, and Anam Creative. Supported by the Scottish Government’s Ecosystem Fund.

Split Screen will bring together some of Scotland’s most talented artists, creative organisations and digital experts to explore how technology can open up fresh ways of making and sharing performance. 

Split Screen key details

  • Duration: Five days – selected participants must be able to attend all sessions
  • Dates: 15, 29 January and 5, 24 and 25 February 2026
  • Location: Glasgow, venue TBC
  • A portion of spaces is set aside for participants from RCS and project partners
  • 20 participant spaces are available for freelancers and industry professionals​
  • Individuals/freelancers will be offered a £500 subsidy to contribute towards their travel and time
  • The main programme is limited to non-student applicants, but students are invited to join us for the artist showcases in the evenings

Programme outline

EXPLORE: 15 January 2026 (9am-5pm) To explore and understand key AI and digital technologies shaping the performing arts.

PLAY: 29 January 2026 (9am-5pm) To experiment and play with Digital and AI tools for theatre, choreography, music composition and scenography.

AMPLIFY: 5 February 2026 (9am-5pm) To explore the routes to market and channels of distribution.

TWO-DAY SPRINT: 24 and 25 February (9am-5pm) Participants are set a task to design and produce a short performance or prototype integrating digital innovation, with mentorship and technical support.

Applications are now open, deadline for applications is Monday 15 December at 12noon.
