Scottish Government: Climate Engagement Fund

Closing date: Tue 7 May 2024: 11pm

The Climate Engagement Fund (CEF) aims to build understanding of the climate emergency across communities in Scotland by offering financial support to ‘trusted messenger’ organisations for climate engagement activities.

The total value of the CEF in 2024 to 2025 is £250,000. Applicants can request between £25,000 and £80,000 for their project and all funded activity must be completed by 31 March 2025. Funding cannot be used to cover capital costs. The closing date for applications is 11.59pm, Tue 7 May 2024.

They are interested in both local and national climate change engagement projects, and they encourage bids from new-to-climate organisations as well as those well experienced with climate engagement or with projects already in train.

Bids will be assessed on their merits against the funding and assessment criteria. They also encourage match-funded bids from other funds that are external to Scottish Government. Eligible applicant organisations for the Climate Engagement Fund (CEF) must be ‘trusted messengers’. The full list of the eligible organisation types can be found on the Scottish Government website.

While the scope of eligible activity is relatively wide to invite innovative ideas, they encourage activities to be planned and guided by the seven principles for engagement, as set out in the Public Engagement Strategy for Climate Change. Activity should be based on community priorities.

To apply for a grant, please complete the application form and email it to with the subject line ‘Climate Engagement Fund bid’. They aim to notify applicants of the decision and issue grant offer letters to the successful applicants in May 2024.
