Stagecoach Performing Arts Aberdeen South wishes to appoint an enthusiastic and dynamic individual to the post of Drama Teacher required on Saturdays during term time.
Now in its 23rd year, Stagecoach Performing Arts Aberdeen South operates on a Saturday and is based at Holburn West Church Halls, in Central Aberdeen. The Main School, for which this post is advertised, runs from 10am – 1pm and 2pm – 5pm during the normal school term. The successful applicant would be required to teach up to 36 weeks of the year.
The school is divided into three “Stages”: Stage 1 (6-9 years), Stage 2 (10-12 years) and Stage 3 (13-18 years). All students complete one hour of singing, dance and drama and rotate around these three disciplines within the three hour period. For much of the time the three Stages work in isolation, but come together when preparing for an end of term demonstration of classwork or productions.
The successful candidate will have experience teaching drama to children and young adults, preferably in a group setting, and will be able to plan and deliver stimulating and educational lessons on a weekly basis. A sound knowledge of the principles of drama and of suitable repertoire is expected. The ability to motivate and nurture students in a positive and supportive way is essential. Whilst they seek to develop our students’ skills in each of the three disciplines, they equally endeavour to develop life skills, through the medium of the performing arts, and in so doing, developing creative courage for life.
The successful candidate should be organised, patient and adaptable, and will have well-developed communication skills.
In two out of the three terms, the Drama Coach will prepare students for end of term productions or demonstrations of classwork. The successful candidate will work well as part of a team and alongside the Principal, Singing Coach and Dance Coach, and will take an active role in making creative decisions that best suit our students.
Pay is £150 per six-hour session.
