Surrogate: Paid Creative Placements for Young People

Pay: £266 for four days work
Closing date: Mon 30 Jan 2023: 12pm

Surrogate are seeking up to 12 young people (aged 18-25) to act as ‘surrogate(s)’ on behalf of their upcoming touring project – WHO KILLED MY FATHER – within your local community and support their audience development and community engagement work.

Their next project is the Scottish tour of WHO KILLED MY FATHER (Qui a tué mon père) based on the book by Édouard Louis, translated by Lorin Stein, and supported by the National Lottery through Creative Scotland. The production will open at Cumbernauld Theatre in April 2023 and tour to a further 11 venues across Scotland in May 2023, including Mull Theatre, Dumfries Theatre Royal, Byre Theatre, Traverse Theatre, MacArts, Platform Theatre, Beacon Arts Centre, Universal Arts, An Lanntair Stornoway, OneTouch Inverness and The Lemon Tree Aberdeen.

They are offering up to 12 paid creative placements for young people on this project – one for each of the touring destinations. You may be a young theatre-maker, performer, or writer, or perhaps an aspiring producer, or marketeer. You may have a particular connection to the material or want to learn more about how a theatre company operates, gaining a deeper insight into the creative process.

Surrogate(s) role will be to support audience development strategies, help them to get in touch with marginalised groups in your communities, share word of the performances and the accompanying advance workshop/post-show platform, and via social media (if applicable), and attend these activities as ambassadors of the company. They anticipate up to 2.5 days total on this work.

Surrogate(s) will also be able to gain learning and insights to benefit their future development and practice. You’ll be given dedicated time with creative team members, and depending on your needs/interests, will have the opportunity to shadow a team member’s work and/or talk with multiple members of the team about their roles and/or practice. They anticipate up to 1.5 days total on these activities. The salary for the role is £266 for four days work, which amounts to a maximum of 28 hours of time in total at £9.50 per hour, between February – June 2023.

The deadline for expressions of interest is 12 noon, Mon 30 January 2023.
Successful applicants will be invited to Zoom interviews held w/c 6 February 2023.
