The John Byrne Award is the place for people with something to say. Entries are free and you could win our monthly award of £250. They accept submissions across all creative disciplines 365 days a year. Cash prizes are awarded monthly, and winners are automatically entered into our annual award, with an additional cash prize of £2,500.

Your work will feature in the online gallery and anyone over 16 years old, living or studying in Scotland can enter. The John Byrne Award celebrates and supports creativity and promotes the discussion of ideas through the arts.

Named after one of Scotland’s most prolific artists and playwrights, The John Byrne Award seeks to engage in important conversations about the values, beliefs and ideals which shape our lives and our communities.

They embrace diversity and encourage entrants who represent Scotland’s many and varied communities. They believe that art is fundamental to the health and wellbeing of individuals and communities. Not only does it have the power to provoke thought, discussion, and debate but it can activate positive change.

The John Byrne Award is a project of The Iris Initiative, Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation, SC043568.
