The University of Edinburgh: Community Access to Rooms

Community Access to Rooms offers local community groups and organisations the opportunity to use University rooms free-of-charge. 

This is a commitment in the University’s Community Plan 2020 – 2025 and a Scottish Government Social Impact Pledge.

What’s on offer? 
  • Central Edinburgh Rooms: Available Monday – Friday, 6pm – 9pm. 
  • King’s Buildings Campus: Available Monday – Friday, 6pm – 10pm, and weekends from 10am – 4pm.

Requests will be honoured with as much notice as possible, subject to space availability. Please note that they are unable to fulfil requests with less than 24 hours notice. Recurring bookings are encouraged, with confirmation available up to four months in advance. 

Please be mindful of reduced availability during University teaching holidays. There is no room access available during winter break. For detailed semester dates, refer to the schedule at Semester Dates.

Various spaces are offered across their locations, ranging from small meeting rooms to spacious lecture theatres. Their rooms can be used for a variety of purposes, including workshops, study groups, meetings, fitness classes, rehearsals, community events and more. Schedule a visit in advance to check out their rooms. Let them know your requirements, and they’ll make the arrangements for you.

Facilities 
  • Visitor WiFi (Visit-Ed): Explore wireless connectivity options during your visit. 
  • In-room PCs: Non-networked access may be feasible for your convenience. 
  • AV Equipment: Some rooms may provide access to AV equipment. 

They cannot offer catering services or IT support services.

Exclusions 
  • Events or gatherings solely aimed at promoting religious or political beliefs. 
  • Standard for-profit or statutory organisations and any organisation with an annual income exceeding £1 million. 
  • Meetings that pose a clear and significant risk to the wellbeing of University students, staff or visitors.
