As Youth Theatre Arts Scotland’s next Chief Executive Officer, you’ll join at a pivotal moment — with a strong team, a clear strategic plan, and the opportunity to shape the next chapter of Scotland’s national development agency for youth theatre.

We are looking for a visionary and collaborative leader to build on our success with care and ambition, and lead our organisation with clarity and purpose. You’ll champion young people’s creativity, ensuring the organisation is well-managed, financially sound, and impactful in advancing youth theatre across Scotland.

About YTAS

Youth Theatre Arts Scotland (YTAS) is the national development agency and umbrella body for Scotland’s youth theatre sector. We play a unique and vital role in Scotland’s cultural life — supporting young people, empowering practitioners, and connecting youth theatre across the country.

Our vision is for universal access to quality youth theatre and universal recognition of its impact. We believe in helping others, community, collaboration, excellence, and joy.

About the Role

This is a senior leadership position with wide-ranging responsibilities, including…

  • overall leadership and management of Youth Theatre Arts Scotland, including finances, staff, funding, programme delivery, and advocacy.
  • creating and implementing the organisation’s strategic business plan, meeting legal, financial, funding, and operational objectives.
  • overseeing organisational activity, ensuring it is in line with strategic objectives and is produced to the highest standards.
  • representing YTAS and Scotland’s youth theatre sector to partners, policymakers, funders and the public locally, nationally, and internationally.
  • supporting strong governance by working closely with the Board of Directors.
  • leading and supporting a high-performing staff team, and nurturing a collaborative, inclusive and values-driven workplace culture.
  • ensuring that the voice of Scotland’s youth theatre arts sector is always fully represented and at the heart of what Youth Theatre Arts Scotland does.
  • staying abreast of relevant developments in arts, education and culture.

About You

We’re looking for someone who inspires trust and confidence, bringing people together around shared goals, and nurturing a healthy, inclusive, and values-driven workplace culture.

You should be…

  • an experienced and inspiring team leader, with a track record of managing organisations, programmes, or teams. You will know how to recruit, develop, and support staff, creating conditions for people to thrive.
  • a strategic thinker, able to see the bigger picture, setting clear direction, and driving improvement.
  • a details person, with a solid understanding of financial management and reporting, including charity governance.
  • a skilled communicator who understands the value of youth theatre and who can make a compelling case for its impact.
  • a confident advocate for youth voice, participation, and access, familiar with Scotland’s cultural, educational, and third sector landscape.

Why Join Us?

This is an exciting opportunity to lead a well-respected organisation at a moment of momentum and possibility. If you share our passion for young people’s creativity and want to make a lasting impact across Scotland’s arts, education, and youth sectors, we’d love to hear from you.

We actively welcome applications from people of all backgrounds and identities. As a flexible-working organisation and a PiPA (Parents and Carers in Performing Arts) partner, we are happy to discuss how the role could best work for you.
