A Hundred Words For Snow

Fringe Venue 324, Leith Arches
6 Manderston Street, Edinburgh
£5

By Tatty Hennessy
Performed by Lucia Ireland

Rory – (Aurora) – is a fifteen-year-old schoolgirl. Her Geography teacher dad has died in a car crash. Rory looks at his papers and discovers his passion for North Pole explorers and a plan to go to the Arctic. He never made it, so Rory decides to take his ashes there.

Leaving home with a passport and her Mum’s credit card, Rory takes her father’s ashes and makes her way to Norway. Here she bumps into Norwegian boys. They look cool. They look hot. Andreas offers her a drink. She accepts. But – ‘It’s a bit weird to be sitting at the Arctic Circle chatting to a fit boy with your dad’s ashes in your backpack.’

A comic, complex, epic, undulating story that pitches themes of death and rebirth against a shifting backdrop of climate change, geography and exploration. A coming-of-age story. With polar bears.
