The Wright siblings, Ash and Lea have never been able to escape the shadow their mother left looming over them. Living a life of expectation, Lea blossoms under the pressure to continue her mother’s legacy. Ash, the younger sibling, goes down a very different path and struggles to graduate secondary school at all. Though the siblings keep up appearances for their mother, it is clear the two of them struggle to have any kind of positive relationship.

After their mother’s death, the siblings are forced to complete an escape room together in order to receive her last will and testament. What seems to be a harmless task turns out to be the siblings’ worst nightmare, forcing the two of them to work together all while trying to beat the clock.

A dark comedy with a Shakespearian twist; the siblings face the challenges of the room as well as their relationship, revealing that their upbringing was not as black and white as they had thought. After going down a dark path the two of them have never spoken of, will the siblings be able to make it out of the escape room unscathed?

This script-in-hand reading is a preview for the Edinburgh Festival Fringe run at Paradise in the Vault from 13-24 August 2025 (no show on 17 August).
