National Theatre Connections Festival 2024

You’ve probably heard about it, maybe you’ve even taken part… but this year the National Theatre Connections team are reaching out to YTAS members to get involved in their upcoming festival.

Every year, Connections commissions new plays for young people to perform. The programme brings together some of the UK’s most exciting writers with the theatre-makers of tomorrow. In 21/22, they worked with 260 youth companies and over 8,000 young people from every corner of the UK.

Connections is open to any company of young people aged 13-19. You can be a school, a youth theatre or voluntary organisation. You can have lots of experience staging plays or none at all. Whoever you are, your group can apply to be part of Connections.

Information Session

Youth Theatre Arts Scotland hosted the Connections team for a virtual lunchtime info session on Wednesday 7 June, where we offered a chance for the sector to ask questions and hear more about the application process, the plays and the festival overall. We also heard from one of 2023’s host venues (Pitlochry Festival Theatre) and a Scottish youth theatre (Corn Exchange Young Performers) who took part in the 2023 festival.

If you’re thinking of applying, watch the video to get the insider scoop and get your applications for next year in before the deadline on Monday 10 July 2023.
