Next Generation

Join the ‘Next Generation’ and launch your career as an arts practitioner!

Are you aged 16-24 and ready to blast off into the world of the arts? Ready to take a giant leap towards a creative career? Well, Youth Theatre Arts Scotland’s Next Generation programme could be your chance to gain real-world skills, meet a crew of inspiring peers, and boost the ignition on your arts career.

This free support, development, and training programme is now in its second year, and on the lookout for a brand new cohort of young leaders in the early stages of their working lives as practitioners in the arts.

The course is tailor-made for young people who have a connection to the youth theatre sphere. Whether your mission is being a youth theatre leader, artist, or future arts manager, this programme will give you the tools you need to thrive, realising your career potential, and breathing fresh new life into the world of youth theatre.

Programme participants will take part in online and in-person training on a part-time basis to achieve an accredited SCQF Level 3 qualification. Participants can then choose to continue on their journey to gain an SCQF Level 6 qualification if they wish.

Programme participants will become independent, active and confident individuals with the skills and abilities to realise their career potential, and to bring new ideas, aspiration and advocacy to Scotland’s youth theatre sector. But don’t just take our word for it… watch the video below to see what some of 2024-2025’s cohort had to say about their time on the programme.

If you need one, you can find a transcript here.

What’s in it for you?

  • Part-time training between September 2025 and August 2026, online and in-person… Perfect to orbit around your busy schedule.
  • Develop foundational leadership skills and professional knowledge alongside like-minded creatives.
  • Achieve an accredited SCQF Level 3 qualification.
  • Unlock the confidence to bring fresh ideas to Scotland’s youth theatre scene.
