NFYT 2024: ‘The Playground Protests’ – Theatre Alliance

The Gaiety
Carrick St, Ayr, KA7 1NU
Pay What You Decide

‘Respect your teachers. Obey them. Accept their punishments. Punishment may include being hit with a whip, cane, belt, shoe, ruler or paddle. Failure to accept this punishment will result in more punishment’.

In 1987, corporal punishment was banned in UK state schools. The role of school children was key in bringing an end to this terrible practice, as young people from all over the UK joined to lead strikes, protests, marches and riots in order to make their voices heard. The Playground Protests by Theatre Alliance is a brand-new musical, telling the stories of brave young people who weren’t afraid to stand up and fight for their rights.

Approx Running time: 60mins • Sun 7 July 2024, 12.15pm

This performance is part of the National Festival of Youth Theatre 2024, a fun-packed weekend of performances, workshops, making new pals and inspirational experiences for the young participants.
