A three year, part-time, remote or hybrid learning programme designed for working arts educators to enhance their practice and develop their career opportunities.
The MEd is designed for anyone, anywhere who has a role in supporting the development of others in the arts.
On the programme you will:
1. Join a community of practice with the shared goal of providing high quality arts education experiences. Their learning community consists of arts educators from across all arts disciplines, all formal and non-formal education contexts, and across the world. Their hybrid weekends, online sessions and action learning sets help create a network of individuals, who share a passion for arts education
2. Develop meaningful relationships through sharing and discussing practice with other arts educators. Rather than promote any one way to support learners, they engage learners in conversations about their practice, designed to challenge assumptions, explore alternatives and clarify beliefs. This builds connections.
3. Explore what matters most to you as an artist and arts educator. They believe that it is our core values and philosophies that should underpin our practice as arts educators. They will help you discover what these are for you and how you can make them central to your practice.
4. Develop new ways of thinking and working that promote creativity. Life often seems to busy to really think creatively about what we do, but in taking the time to explore possibilities, to learn what other creative people do, and to try out new approaches is vital to a sustainable practice. They aim to inspire you to go on this journey of discovery.
5. Learn to prioritise the practices that are most effective in supporting your learners. This is a practical programme designed to make significant and lasting change to your practice. On the programme you will have the opportunity to discover what really matters to you, and then to make that part of your daily practice.
6. Become a credible voice, making a real difference in your sector. Through building an evidence-base to support what you are most passionate about, you can learn to position yourself as an authority and go on to influence peers and even your sector.
They application process is open until 30 June 2026. If you have any questions, please contact Jamie Mackay on j.mackay@rcs.ac.uk or have a look on their website https://www.rcs.ac.uk/courses/med-learning-teaching/.
