Capital Theatres are offering three R&D residencies at their Studio Theatre to support Scottish artists to test out new ideas. This is an opportunity to experiment and explore with no expectations to have a sharing at the end.
What they offer:
– Five days of rehearsal space at the Studio Theatre, Edinburgh
– Two days of technical support if you need it
– £2000 in seed funding
– A consultation with their Talent Development Coordinator.
The dates available:
Residency 1: 12-16 October 2026
Residency 2: 26-30 October 2026
Residency 3: 30 November – 4 December 2026
Eligibility criteria:
– You must be based in Scotland
– You must have worked on at least one professional production previously. This can include Fringe performances but not university productions or amateur dramatics
– You must not be in receipt of multi year funding from Creative Scotland.
– You must be available during your selected residency period.
– You must be applying for a new project that has not already been commissioned, produced or coproduced, or staged by another organisation.
– They will be ringfencing one of these residencies for someone based in Edinburgh and the Lothians. They are aiming to support theatre-makers at different stages in their career so are interested in applications from both new and more experienced applicants.

To demystify the application process and be fully transparent about how they select artists, they will be holding a free online session on Tue 21 July 2026, 4pm-5pm, to go through what they’re looking for, the best ways to craft your application ahead of the deadline and to answer any of your questions.
