Youth Theatre Arts Scotland: Become an Amigo at NFYT 2024

Closing date: Mon 15 Apr 2024: 11pm

Are you 18-25 years old? Are you interested in developing your skills in facilitation and event planning? Are you looking for work experience in the youth theatre sector? If yes, YTAS have the answer!

Join the YTAS staff team in July 2024 at the National Festival of Youth Theatre (NFYT) as an Amigo. Amigos are our festival volunteers and are vital to the delivery and planning of the event. Over the course of the festival Amigos will assist workshop facilitators, act as compere at the festival performances, plan and deliver the social activities and become role models to festival attendees. Training will be provided in advance of the event and you will be supported 1-2-1 by our Volunteer Coordinator. YTAS will also enrol you on the PVG Scheme Record.

Amigo Main Responsibilities:

  • meet and greet festival participants, workshop facilitators and public audiences
  • help groups set up and break-down their campsites
  • buddy and support festival participants, particularly those new to the event or with additional support requirements
  • introduce and compere festival performances
  • assist in facilitation of warm-ups and artistic workshops
  • organise and compere social events (which may include acting as DJs at the NFYT Wrap Party)

In return for your time and commitment we will offer you:

  • travel expenses (from within Scotland) to and from the festival location in Ayr
  • travel expenses (from within Scotland) to the in-person Amigos training day in a central Scotland location (venue TBC)
  • camping accommodation in the ‘staff camp’ at Rozelle Park (equipment not included, however we can support you to borrow/rent where required)
  • all meals (lunch at training day; Thursday lunch – Monday breakfast inclusive at festival);
  • pocket money of £80 (to cover any additional expenses)
  • an exclusive festival Amigo t-shirt

What is NFYT?
NFYT is the largest gathering of youth theatres in the UK. It enables young people to come together, discover and celebrate a shared passion, offering them the opportunity to develop as artists, audience members and creative thinkers.

The festival will welcome around 200 participants representing youth theatres from across Scotland and beyond. Seven youth theatre shows will be performed at Ayr Gaiety Theatre, and there will be an education programme of artistic workshops delivered by leading theatre practitioners. Social events will take place in our campsite marquee at Rozelle Park.

Celebrating PRIDE
For the first time in 2024, NFYT will shine a spotlight on LGBTQIA+ artists to celebrate the diversity of our youth theatre family. The Amigo team will help us to ensure LGBTQIA+ inclusion is at the core of NFYT activity and will lead on developing plans for PRIDE celebrations at the festival.

With this in mind, YTAS are particularly interested in receiving applications from LGBTQIA+ individuals and allies.
